You may think it is a good idea to register your pet on multiple databases in the UK, to increase the chance of reunification if your pet was to go missing. In fact, it has a detrimental effect in causing a potential delay with authorities having to check multiple databases and not know which is the most up to date.
The registration of one microchip across multiple databases means that keepership checks cannot be put in place to make sure the animal is not reported as missing/stolen and allows someone who has stolen a dog to be deemed as compliant with the legislation by having registered it on a database to themselves..
Most UK compliant databases have a best practice not to take a microchip registration that is already on another compliant UK database and have agreed practices in the ‘migration’ of microchips to another database at a keeper’s request.
