From April 2016, Microchipping of Dogs legislation states that the Breeder must be the first registered keeper on the microchips of any puppies that they breed. A Breeder is defined as the owner of the bitch who has the pups, so regardless of whether this is an accidental litter, a one-off litter, you are a hobby Breeder or you are an accredited Breeder you will need to have this account type.
You will therefore need to register the litter to yourself when they are microchipped to comply with Microchipping of Dogs legislation.
When you sell an animal you will need to input the new keeper's details to generate a transfer code and give this code to the new keeper. If you have entered their email address and mobile phone number they will also be sent the code directly. They will need to enter this code on the Animal Tracker website and open an account to accept the animal's record and become the new registered keeper.
Registering the litter to yourself first also means that your details will remain in the microchip's history. You can view previous records in the 'Historical Breeder Records' section on your account page. You can also opt for your details to remain visible on the microchip so that if someone was to find the animal and couldn't reach the listed keeper, you could be contacted as a back-up.
An animal registered directly to a pet owner without any breeder information may result in the pet owner paying a fee to register the pet directly into their name.
